PULLMAN, Wash. – “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and a Prayer,” will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 20-22 at Washington State University’s Jones Theater as a benefit for local and global efforts to end violence against women and girls.
Tickets are available for $6.17 at http://vday2014.brownpapertickets.com/, $5 in the CUB weekdays Jan. 27-Feb. 13 and $8 at the door.
Sponsor V-Day WSU (http://www.vday.wsu.edu) is a student group affiliated with the national V-Day anti-violence organization (http://www.vday.org/home). The production replaces the annual benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues.”
“We chose this production instead of ‘The Vagina Monologues’ because we wanted to show that violence against women does not only affect women, but also men,” said student and director Therese Jose.
Ninety percent of the proceeds will go to the nonprofit Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse (http://atvp.org/). Ten percent will go to V-Day’s International Spotlight Group and to assist with production costs.
“A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls,” is a collection of inspired, funny, angry, heartfelt, tragic and beautiful monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. Together they create a portrait about how violence against women affects everyone.
