Scholar selected for national internship in D.C.

PULLMAN, Wash. – After successfully completing her first year at Washington State University, Brendali Diaz will head to Washington, D.C., this summer to be an intern in the Office of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.

As a freshman, Diaz participated in the federally funded College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at WSU, which provides assistance for eligible students from migrant and/or seasonal farmworker backgrounds. CAMP helps to identify and recruit students and provides them with the academic support services to ensure successful completion of their first year at WSU.

Diaz will participate in an eight-week program June 8-Aug. 10, conducting critical research and data collection on Latino education. She will participate in staff meetings, assist the chief of staff in preparing reports, assist in planning events and respond to constituent inquiries.

In addition, she will participate in seminars and leadership activities as part of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) internship program.

“The CAMP staff is proud of Brendali and her accomplishments,” said Josue Estrada, CAMP director. “She is an extremely motivated scholar who challenges herself constantly.

“Over the past few years, we have worked hard to promote internships,” he said, “and we are beginning to see more students apply to competitive internship programs.”
