PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University’s online engineering and technology management program (ETM) has expanded to include a master’s degree with a specialization in construction management and a graduate certificate. The new courses and certificate will be offered starting this summer.
“Adding an emphasis in construction management is a natural extension for our popular program in engineering and technology management,” said John Ringo, ETM director. “These new courses will enrich the curriculum for our current students and greatly benefit new students whose employment is closely associated with the construction management industry.”
Faculty from WSU’s School of Design and Construction Management will teach the new courses, which will include program and facilities management; project controls; conceptual cost estimating; integrated project delivery methods; and sustainability of construction materials.
For the construction management option, students will take core courses required for a master’s degree in engineering and technology management and four electives in construction management. The professional graduate certificate will be in facilities management; four courses are required to earn it. The ETM also offers seven other certificates.
Rick Cherf, Don Poe industry faculty instructor in the school, is enthusiastic about reaching more students through the program.
“The construction industry is in the early stages of an accelerating and positive transformation due to increasing owner demand for value and an evolution in alternative project delivery methods,” Cherf said. “The construction management specialization with the ETM master’s degree and new graduate certificate will provide critical tools for managers that will allow them to be an integral part in this transformation.”
The ETM online program has offered engineering and business professionals worldwide a master’s degree in engineering and technology management and graduate certificates since 1982. Courses are delivered live over the Internet in an interactive setting and are archived for student review at any time from anywhere.
