Kelley, principal assistant for the College of Nursing, was presented with the Administrative Professional Staff Excellence Award. A WSU employee for 35 years, Kelley is known for her strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges. Colleagues lauded her signature cheerfulness, can-do attitude and contribution to a collaborative work environment.

“She sets the standard with her professionalism, attention to detail and problem-solving abilities,” said one nominator. “She is a role model who strives for excellence.”

“It is truly an honor to win the award and to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful faculty, staff and students,” Kelley said.

Phillipson, program coordinator for Facilities Operations, was awarded the Civil Service Staff Excellence Award. A WSU employee for 13 years, Phillipson is the go-to person and communication link between Facilities Operations and the campus community regarding facilities and safety. Her nominators also noted her effectiveness as an ambassador for WSU Spokane through broader community and regional organization affiliations.

“Norene’s work ethic is simply incredible,” said one nominator. “She works across all lines on campus and has a great knack for pulling people together to get the job done.”

“It is such an honor to be nominated for this award by the people I work with and for,” said Phillipson. “I am blessed to be part of a growing campus and community!”

The WSU Spokane campus presents the awards every year to two employees – an administrative professional staff and a civil service staff member. Both are nominated and selected by their peers in recognition of outstanding contributions to the WSU Spokane campus and the greater Spokane community.
