Nominations sought for non-tenure track teaching excellence

PULLMAN, Wash. – Teaching excellence by non-tenure track faculty at Washington State University will be recognized with a new universitywide annual award, the President’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Non-Tenure Track Faculty. Nominations are open through Jan. 15; the award will be presented at WSU Showcase on March 29.

“This award is designed to honor those non-tenure track faculty members who exhibit the highest levels of performance in teaching,” said Fran McSweeney, vice provost for faculty affairs. “They play a vital role in the teaching mission of the university. As a result, they help us in fulfilling our goals. The awards will recognize truly outstanding accomplishments in the instructional programs at WSU.”

Regularly appointed non-tenure track faculty (half-time or more) are eligible. This includes clinical faculty, instructors, senior instructors, adjunct and affiliate faculty. Section V, pp. 104-105 of the Faculty Manual details descriptions.

Applications from eligible faculty members, and nominations from others on their behalf, are welcome. In both cases, the process involves submitting a complete set of materials. The online form with instructions is available at http://president.wsu.edu/office/awards/teaching-award/.

Award criteria also are listed there.

Faculty members of the WSU Teaching Academy will comprise the selection committee. They will review nominations for the award, select two winners and recommend them to the university president.
