New Tri-Cities stage opens with ribbon-cutting, mind-reader

RICHLAND, Wash. – An outdoor stage for campus and community events will officially open at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

The Columbia Center Rotary Stage is on the grassy area between the West Building and the Consolidated Information Center, with the Columbia River as a backdrop.
A unique partnership provided financing for the $140,000 project.

Stage construction and equipment were financed by:
• Columbia Center Rotary Club Charity Board, $80,000
• City of Richland, $40,000 from the Hotel/Motel Lodging Tax Fund
• Students of WSU Tri-Cities, $20,000 from the Service and Activities Facilities Fees

The ribbon-cutting ceremony starts promptly at 11 a.m. It is recommended that guests begin to gather at 10:45 a.m., to allow time to park and walk to the stage.

The ceremony will be brief, as the campus Student Entertainment Board has hired Wayne Hoffman, a nationally renowned “mentalist,” to perform at 11:30 a.m. for a student gathering.

Directions: From George Washington Way, pass Hanford High School, pass the first entrance to campus, turn right at the University Drive stoplight, turn right on Crimson Way, then turn left into the Consolidated Information Center, 2770 Crimson Way. Follow the signs to walk straight through the CIC/Library building, then outside to the stage.
