Apr. 5 – Healthcare Symposium in Spokane

The Foley Institute, in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts presents a public symposium:

A Rational Conversation about Health Care Reform

Implementing changes required by the Affordable Care Act of 2010 poses important challenges for the future. How is implementation of the act progressing so far? What changes should healthcare providers and consumers expect in the coming years? And what are the politics of health care reform as we go forward?

Our first panel of experts consists of Mary Selecky (WA Secretary of Health), John Pierce (Vice President of Premera Blue Cross), Patricia Butterfield (Dean of Nursing, WSU), and Tom Schaaf (Regional Medical Director of Group Health) who will be addressing the policy questions surrounding implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

After the break, our second panel of Chris Faricy (WSU), Senator Karen Keiser (WA 33rd Legislative District), Jae Kennedy (WSU), and Paul Pierson (University of California, Berkeley), will be discussing the politics and political ramifications of health care reform implementation.
