WSU registrar named Woman of the Year

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University Registrar Julia Pomerenk will be recognized as Woman of the Year during the Women’s Recognition Luncheon Wednesday, March 21, in the CUB ballroom.
Pomerenk is a long-time member of the Association for Faculty Women and has been instrumental in providing leadership for the implementation of zzusis, WSU’s new student information system. She serves as president of the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO) and has provided leadership for the American Association for Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO).
Pomerenk has served as WSU’s registrar since 2003.
In addition to Pomerenk, two other WSU employees will be recognized as Women of Distinction:
* Kimberlee Kidwell, associate dean, College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences. As a spring wheat breeder, Kidwell has developed more than a dozen new varieties that have generated more than $60 million per year in farm-gate value for Washington wheat producers.
* Sharon Morgan, senior associate director of gift planning for the WSU Foundation. Among her many accomplishments, Morgan drafted legislation that created collegiate logo license plates. The program has raised more than $1 million to support WSU scholarships.
Joining Kidwell and Morgan as Women of Distinction are:

* Susan Wofford, a local dental assistant. Wofford is an active volunteer in her children’s school and church. She is trained in many areas such as pre-marital and marriage counseling, women’s ministries, helping adult victims of childhood abuse and mentoring young women.
* Peg Motley, a retired Pullman school teacher and coach who founded the local businesses Wheatland Travel and Wheatland Express. She has served on many community boards for such organizations as the Pullman Chamber of Commerce and the Whitman County Humane Society.
* Francesca White, a WSU senior majoring in biological sciences. White has served in leadership roles for the Xi Psi Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Coalition for Women Students, Black Women’s Caucus and the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
“All of these women are highly accomplished and have made incredible contributions to the people around them,” said Kathy Dorgan, chair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women. “It really is a privilege to honor them at the luncheon.”
