SPOKANE, Wash. – The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences officially consolidated its programs in Spokane this fall. It also left the College of Liberal Arts to become part of the Division of Health Sciences under Vice Provost Gary Pollack.
About 65 upper-division undergraduate students made the move from Pullman. They joined students in the graduate program, which was already in Spokane.
“There’s so much interest in building the health sciences,” said Gail Chermak, professor and chair of the department. “We now have an administrative home that has a more common vision, more common experiences. It think it’s where we should be.”
The department recently hired academic advisor Georgina Lynch. She has experience as a speech-language pathologist and will also teach undergraduate courses.
Speech and hearing sciences becomes the third program in the health sciences division, which also includes the WWAMI medical education and the health policy and administration programs.
