Mideast journalists to discuss role of media in their countries

PULLMAN, Wash. – A question and answer session with visiting journalism students and recent college journalism graduates from Palestine, Lebanon, Oman and Iraq will be 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, in Room 21 of the Washington State University Communication Addition (CADD 21).

The free public event is intended to highlight the experiences of the students while at WSU. They will discuss how issues pertaining to media roles, freedoms, practices and responsibilities in their respective countries compare to those in the U.S.

The 18 journalists have been at WSU for four weeks taking classes from faculty and invited guest speakers on the media, democracy and the U.S. political system. The visit, which is sponsored by the U.S. State Department, provides an opportunity for foreign students to learn about American media and democracy through the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication.
