Email upgrade under way: Exchange 2003 to 2010

Information Technology Services is beginning the initial steps for the email upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. This upgrade is for customers of the central ITS Exchange service (connect.wsu.edu) or email addresses that are in the NID@wsu.edu domain.

When complete, the upgrade will provide all central ITS Exchange service customers with a 5 GB size mailbox and a better web based email interface known as
Outlook Web App or OWA.

Entourage email users will need to upgrade their mail software or make configuration changes depending on the Entourage client being used. ITS is asking Entourage users to self-identify to ensure that ITS can help coordinate the required software upgrade on your system with the mailbox upgrade. Please send your name, operating system, and Entourage version being used to entourage.users@wsu.edu.

Only MAC Entourage email users are asked to participate in this early self-identification process. Exchange customers using Microsoft Windows and Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010, ActiveSync or Outlook Web Access should not require any configuration changes during the upgrade.

All WSU email domains were given the opportunity to participate in this upgrade; however, not all units were able to take advantage of this opportunity. Those not participating include vet med, EECS, energy, architecture, math and Tri-Cities email addresses. These units’ users will see no change in their email accounts as part of this central upgrade.

Additional information will be distributed as the actual Exchange 2010 upgrade date gets closer.

This multi-phased project is expected to start in early summer 2011, and all central ITS Exchange users will be moved to the new Exchange version no later than Sept. 30, 2011. Please contact the Help Desk with questions at 509-335-HELP (4357) or helpdesk@wsu.edu.
