Students showcase service, learning from spring break

PULLMAN, Wash. – Making volunteer opportunities meaningful for students in transformative ways will be discussed by a panel of faculty and students 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in the CUB junior ballroom.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to joan.Osa Oviawe, joviawe@wsu.edu.

Students who participated in an alternative spring break trip to Galveston Island, Texas, will share their work. Sponsored by the dean of students office, the volunteers helped with post-Hurricane Ike relief efforts.

In addition to volunteering, the students collaborated with the University of Texas Medical Board on a project about resiliency.

They interviewed residents, community organizers and leaders. They took photos and video of signs of economic disparity. The results will be a multimedia presentation and narratives that will be published in an academic journal.
