Alumna Kathi Goertzen honored with building dedication

Murrow Communication Addition

PULLMAN, Wash. – Kathi Goertzen’s family and closest friends will be on hand this Saturday as The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication renames its newest building in her honor. The Goertzen Communication Addition will be formally unveiled as a fitting tribute to one of the college’s most beloved alumna.

“Kathi Goertzen was a dear friend and a true inspiration to many of us within the WSU community. In dedicating this building to her memory, it is my sincere hope that her steadfast dedication to both WSU and her chosen profession will serve as a continuing inspiration to the generations of students who will follow in her path.” said WSU President Elson S. Floyd.

Dr. Floyd, along with a host of friends and family, will take a part in special ceremony marking the building dedication on the Washington State University Pullman campus. Joining him will be Goertzen’s husband Rick Jewett, Kathi’s children and parents, former KOMO colleagues and Murrow alums Margo Myer, Eric Johnson, and Kelly Koopmans, who was inspired to attend WSU because of Kathi, and has now followed her to the KOMO-TV anchor desk.

“We honor Kathi in the most fitting way, by paving the path for a new generation of students,” said Murrow College Founding Dean Lawrence Pintak. “In Kathi’s honor we pledge to create a new generation of students armed with the latest technology, yet steeped in the traditions of Edward R. Murrow. It’s what we believe she would have wanted.”

The ceremony is set for 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the new Goertzen Communication Addition, 445 Veteran’s Way, and is open to the public. The event will also be streamed live at http://experience.wsu.edu.
