Annual health fair to offer health screenings, vaccines

SPOKANE – Students from WSU’s Program in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, in partnership with the Riverpoint Campus Wellness Collaborative, will host Health Fair 2010 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21.

 

Located in the atrium of the Academic Center on the Riverpoint Campus, the fair is designed to educate and involve the campus and surrounding community in exploring healthy lifestyle choices. It features local vendors who represent recreational activities, healthy living, nutrition, health care organizations, fitness and more.

Senator tours education facilities at WSU Spokane

SPOKANE – Sen. Patty Murray joined with WSU officials and students at the Riverpoint campus Wednesday to discuss the growth of its health science programs, and to see firsthand how students are preparing for the future of health care.

 

After an introduction to students and campus leaders, Murray viewed artist renditions of a fully built-out campus, with traffic relief and improved safety for students. Celebrate your health at Healthy Fair 2009

SPOKANE — Students from WSU’s Program in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (ExMet), in partnership with the Riverpoint Campus Wellness Collaborative, will host the 5th Annual Healthy Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, on the Riverpoint Campus in the atrium of the Academic Center at 600 N Riverpoint Blvd.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore a variety of healthy activities. ExMet and nursing students will be offering a limited number of free cholesterol and blood glucose screenings. Please contact Saren Kennedy at 509-358-7630 to schedule a time for the cholesterol test.

New art at WSU Spokane emphasizes personal reflection, exploration, and life

SPOKANE – WSU Spokane and the Washington State Arts Commission (WSAC) are excited to announce the newest installation to the State Art Collection. A sculpture titled “alive lively living for Ramona Hodges” by native Spokane artist, Jim Hodges, was installed on the lawn east of the Nursing Building located on the Riverpoint Campus.

 

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for May 7, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. in the Nursing Building Courtyard at 103 E Spokane Falls Blvd.

Participate in master plan workshops for updates on campus plans

SPOKANE – The community is invited to participate in three master plan workshops in March, April and June for an update of the Riverpoint Campus plan. The planning process, led by WSU, includes representatives of Riverpoint Campus partners Eastern Washington University and Sirti.

Moving into new College of Nursing

Two years after groundbreaking, the WSU College of Nursing recently moved into the new Nursing Building on the WSU Spokane Riverpoint campus.

 

The college’s 600 or so Spokane students will begin classes there in spring semester, and the building will be dedicated sometime in the spring.

 

The $34.6 million building first received a legislative appropriation during the 2003-05 biennium. The building’s 89,000 square feet house state-of-the-art distance learning classrooms to support the college’s statewide mission; a nursing practice laboratory; technology for patient simulation; computer and multimedia laboratories and classrooms; research team space for data analysis; and offices for college administration, support … » More …

Riverpoint campus updates master plan

SPOKANE – WSU is launching an update of the master plan for the Riverpoint Campus, last updated in 2000. An oversight committee including representatives of Eastern Washington University and Sirti as well as WSU has been established to work with the design firms that have been selected.

The process begins in April, with plans to complete the process in 120 days. Opportunities for public review and input will be announced when they are finalized.

Plan developed for Riverpoint Campus

SPOKANE – A collaborative approach to academic planning will expand opportunities in public higher education for Spokane, under a comprehensive academic plan developed this spring for the Riverpoint Campus.

The governing boards of Community Colleges of Spokane, Eastern Washington University and Washington State University recently reviewed and approved the plan, which lays out both short-term and long-term collaborative initiatives. The plan focuses on four core areas reflecting the strengths and opportunities for programs already growing at Riverpoint: health and biomedical sciences and professions; interdisciplinary design; education; and community viability and economic development.

WSU announces MBA program for execs

SPOKANE — The College of Business at WSU announced the creation of a new executive MBA at WSU’s Riverpoint campus in Spokane. The new program will offer the WSU Master’s of Business Administration program to busy professionals through a combination of online course work and weekend classes taught by world-class WSU faculty.

Collaboration aims to increase learning

SPOKANE – Earlier this year Spokane’s largest public educational institutions joined forces in the form of a Riverpoint Math and Science Partnership, co-chaired by WSU faculty, to work toward improved student learning in math and science.

With this mission in mind and a $226,000 grant from the Washington State Higher Education Improving Teacher Quality Program, the partners are developing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) of 11th and 12th grade mathematics teachers and math faculty from community colleges and universities.
