Goldwater-winnersPULLMAN, Wash. – Two Washington State University students won annual Barry M. Goldwater scholarships and one student received honorable mention. The merit-based awards, typically for $7,500, go to college sophomores and juniors in science, engineering and mathematics who intend to pursue a career in research.

One of Washington State University’s four primary goals, according to its strategic plan, is to “offer the best undergraduate experience in a research university.”Nice words, but how do you do it? For more than 10 years, many faculty and administrators have discussed the need for an office focusing on undergraduate education and a teaching academy, said Doug Baker, vice provost for academic affairs.
