Gardening celebrity Ed Hume will dispense advice, sell his signature seed packets and sign his gardening books from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the annual Washington State University Horticulture Club’s Mom’s Weekend Plant Sale on Sunday, April 15.Hume, who will be the club’s special guest, is host of “Gardening in America,” one of the longest running gardening shows in North America. Firefighters cook up Mom’s Weekend breakfast

PULLMAN – The Pullman Firefighters will again be flipping pancakes, cooking eggs and serving an all-you-can eat breakfast Saturday, April 14 during Washington State University’s Mom’s Weekend. The pancake feed will be held 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. across from  Streit-Perham dormitory at Presbyterian Church of Pullman, near Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum, at 1630 NE Stadium Way. Event chairman Chris Volk said the charity event will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and is sponsored by Pullman Fire Fighters Local 1892 in conjunction with the Pullman Reserve Firefighters. WSU names 2006 Mom of the Year

WSU presented the 2006 Mom of the Year Award to Priscilla F. Speicher during the annual Mom’s Weekend Brunch on Saturday, April 8. A resident of Fox Island, Speicher was nominated by her daughter, Susan E. Speicher, a freshman at WSU with an interest in pre-med.Speicher is described by her daughter as “always being a mother, even before she gave birth to her children.” When her oldest daughter was born with cerebral palsy, Speicher gave up her job as a nurse to home school her daughter. “My sister is now 21 and able to walk, talk, speak, read well and has her high school diploma,” … » More …

‘Project Runway’ slated to launch at WSU

Fashion design students at Washington State University are deep in the throes of their own “Project Runway.”Like the novice designers on the popular reality television show that has its season finale tonight, WSU fashion majors – mostly seniors – are designing their own four-to-six outfit clothing lines. WSU Press book sale April 17 in Holland Library Atrium

A variety of books about cooking, photography, Northwest and western history, politics, art and poetry will be available Saturday, April 17, at the annual Washington State University Press spring sale. The sale will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holland Library atrium. WSU Press holds two local public sales each year and offers discounts for damaged books only at the spring sale. Often the damage is minimal, and patrons can save as much as 70 percent off original prices.
