Campus hosts conference on aging forum

VANCOUVER – The Agency on Aging present the Conference on Aging with keynote speaker Bob Blancato from 9 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at WSU Vancouver in the Administration building, room 110. This conference is a forum on the aging population in the urban and rural areas of Southwest Washington. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Blue Lot for $3. The number of participants is limited to 200. Neuroscience program and Pullman highschool team up for Brain Bee

PULLMAN – The WSU Neuroscience Program is sponsoring The Pullman Brain Bee (PBB), Saturday at 10 a.m., May 2, in the CUE.


The Brain Bee is a live question-and-answer competition for individual high school students which will occur in a format much like a spelling bee. The PBB is associated with Brain Awareness Week and modeled after the International Brain Bee where young men and women from all over North America compete to determine who is the “best brain” on such topics as intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movement, stress, aging, sleep, addiction, Alzheimer’s, and stroke.

Successful aging focus of national workshops

SPOKANE — Successful aging will be the topic four summer workshops led by Bob Scarfo, associate professor of landscape architecture at Washington State University Spokane. The workshops, to be held in San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles and Greenbelt, Maryland, will bring together professionals from the fields of health care and environmental design to discuss successful aging and ways to develop supportive community environments for vibrant older Americans.The workshops are co-sponsored by WSU Spokane, the University of Massachusetts Boston Gerontological Institute, the American Society on Aging, and the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics.
