PULLMAN, Wash. – Celebrating world folk music traditions from Bulgaria to Brazil and Japan to Africa, the vocal quartet Women of the World will perform at Washington State University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.
Reserved seating costs $18 adults, $15 seniors (age 60 or better) and $9 non-WSU students and youth. Tickets are free for WSU students with valid ID. A discounted rate of $14 per person is available to groups of eight or more.
Tickets are on sale at TicketsWest outlets, including online at http://ticketswest.com/events/wsu-performing-arts/10391/, by phone at 800-325-SEAT and in person at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (ticket office open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday; closed March 11-19 for spring break), and the Rosauers supermarket in Lewiston, Idaho. Convenience charges apply at all locations except Beasley, and free WSU student tickets are available in advance only at Beasley. The Daggy Hall box office will open two hours before the performance for ticket sales and will-call.
With a repertoire spanning more than 30 languages, Women of the World (http://womenoftheworldmusic.com/) uses the power of unaccompanied voices to cross musical boundaries and spread a message of peace and unity. The group mixes original compositions and traditional folk songs in a cross-pollination of genres, rhythms and global sounds.
Comprised of four Berklee College of Music alumna, Women of the World was named a cappella national champion at the 2014 Harmony Sweepstakes. Members are founder Ayumi Ueda, Japan; Giorgia Renosto, Italy; Annette Philip, India; and Débòrah Pierre, U.S. and Haiti. The multicultural ensemble has toured North America and Asia and collaborated with many industry legends, including Grammy-winning vocalists Bobby McFerrin and Angélique Kidjo.
Convenient parking for the concert will be available without permits or fees in the Daggy Hall parking garage and in the Green 2 lot directly across the street from Daggy Hall.
