Beginning beekeeping course starts Feb. 27

EVERETT, Wash. – To help rebuild, maintain and expand local pollinators and honey producers, an apprentice level beekeeping course will run 6:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 27-March 27, in McCollum Park at Washington State University Snohomish County Extension’s Cougar Auditorium, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.

It is part of the master beekeeper program developed and managed by the Washington State Beekeepers Association. Sessions are taught by Dave Pehling, journeyman beekeeper and WSU Snohomish County Extension entomologist.

Class size is limited and fills quickly. Cost for the five-week course is $100. Register online at http://MasterBeekeeper.eventbrite.com. Designed to build basic skills, the course will cover bee biology, equipment, seasonal management, identification, pest/disease management and honey harvest – with a focus on western Washington. Those who pass the optional state apprentice beekeeper exam (open book test) will receive a certificate toward the journey and master beekeeper levels.
