March 1: Irish traditional band to celebrate St. Patrick

By Gail Siegel, WSU Performing Arts

PULLMAN, Wash. – Danú, one of Ireland’s leading traditional ensembles, will perform its “St. Patrick’s Day Celebration” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre at Washington State University.

Danú (http://www.danu.net/) has won numerous awards from the BBC and Irish Music Magazine, recorded eight critically acclaimed albums and performed around the globe. Members from counties Waterford, Cork, Dublin and Donegal play ancient and new music on flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion and bouzouki, with English and Irish vocals. See a video at https://vimeo.com/197224637.

Last year Danú welcomed lead vocalist Nell Ní Chróinin who was named Singer of the Year by TG4, the Irish-language public broadcaster, in 2012. In 2014 she became the youngest person to win Ireland’s prestigious Corn Uí Riada competition for sean-nós (“old style”) singing. See a video at https://vimeo.com/197786207.

Reserved seating costs $18 adults, $15 seniors (age 60+) and $9 non-WSU students and youth. WSU students are admitted free with valid ID. A group rate for eight or more is $14 per person.

Tickets are on sale at TicketsWest outlets, including online at http://ticketswest.com/events/wsu-performing-arts/10391/, by phone at 800-325-SEAT and in person at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (ticket office open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.) and the Rosauers supermarket in Lewiston, Idaho. Convenience charges apply at all locations except Beasley, and free WSU student tickets are available in advance only at Beasley. The Daggy Hall box office will open two hours before the performance for ticket sales and will-call.
