Derek-Matlock-webSPOKANE, Wash. – Washington State University pharmacy student Derek Matlock of Tucson, Ariz., is one of 14 student pharmacists from across the United States selected to participate in the 2015 Live Oak Pharmacy Student Program intensive business training for future pharmacy owners in August.

“This is an opportunity for specialized training in pharmacy that most students do not get to take advantage of,” he said. “The course is designed to eliminate the fears of owning an independent pharmacy.”

Hosted by Live Oak Bank in Wilmington, N.C., the program brings industry experts from across the country to offer strategies on owning and operating a successful pharmacy. The bank specializes in financing independent businesses in niche industries including pharmacy, veterinary and dentistry.

After completing his doctor of pharmacy degree at WSU in 2017, Matlock plans to work in retail pharmacy for a few years and then become a pharmacy owner.
