March 21: Nursing students collect items for needy families

Coug-in-the-CommunityRICHLAND, Wash. – Nursing students will partner with the Tri-Cities Union Gospel Mission (UGM) to collect items for needy local families 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Washington State University College of Nursing facility at 1266 E. Lee Blvd., Richland.

“Many people donate things during the holidays but the UGM needs donations year round,” said Shelby Brunson, a nursing student and one of the project leaders. “Nursing students have a keen sense of community service, and we are more than happy to help get the word out and help the UGM by collecting items.”

Donations of shoes; men’s, women’s and children’s clothing; non-perishable food; and kitchen and bathroom items are welcome. If donors would like receipts, UGM representatives will provide them.

The students are taking the lead on the project as part of the Cougs in the Community program (http://tricities.wsu.edu/cougsinthecommunity/).
