career-fair-logoPULLMAN, Wash. – More than 200 employers with regional, national and global operations will be looking to recruit students and community members at the free career expo and technical fair 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Beasley Coliseum at Washington State University.

A new, free app for Apple and Android devices will help participants get the most from the annual event. Search for “Washington State Career Fair Plus” or download at http://ascc.wsu.edu.

Pre-fair workshops “are designed to explain what employers need and want to know, how to interview effectively and how to work the career fair like a pro,” said Susan Poch, WSU assistant vice provost. “The WSU Career Expo and Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture Technical Fair bring recruiters from all over the country. This is testament to the fact that we are known for preparing students who are work-ready when they graduate,’’ said Candis Claiborn, dean of the Voiland College.

Companies are diverse, responsive

Recruiters will be prepared to talk about career positions, internships and educational opportunities across many disciplines, said Christie Motley, assistant director of the WSU Academic Success and Career Center.

Areas represented will include information technology, aerospace, wineries, energy, healthcare, materials, agribusiness, construction, architecture, financial services, retail, military, police, fire service, unmanned aircraft and more.

In addition, Motley said, “companies indicate they are incorporating social and environmental goals into their missions, and their culture encourages and rewards employees who are good at teamwork, collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking.

“This indicates to me that WSU’s strategic plan is right on target when it calls for educational practices that help students develop knowledge of their discipline as well as critical thinking, communication and other skills in demand in the workplace,” she said.

ASCC is a program of the WSU Office of Undergraduate Education.
