June 13-14: New conference supports beef producers

beef-170YAKIMA, Wash. – Nationally known speakers, a trade show, workshops and demonstrations will highlight the inaugural Beef Production Conference: Tools and Techniques for the Future, June 13-14 at State Fair Park in Yakima, Wash.

Participants will learn about advances in genetics, nutrition, herd health, reproduction, grazing management, low-stress cattle handling and more at the conference hosted by Washington State University Extension.

Twenty workshops and demonstrations will benefit anyone involved in the Pacific Northwest’s beef industry. Sessions will be led by cattle specialists from WSU animal sciences, extension and veterinary medicine, as well as speakers from the University of Idaho, Oregon State University and Kansas State University.

Nationally known keynote speakers will be:

• Larry Corah, vice president of Certified Angus Beef LLC, “Tomorrow’s Beef Industry Today”

• Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax, “Developing Opportunities in a Global Marketplace: Are You Prepared?”

• Kent Andersen, genetics associate director of Global Technical Services for Zoetis, “New Genetic Tools for Producing, Selecting and Mating Replacement Heifers.”

The trade show will feature more than 35 companies and organizations, with experts on hand to answer questions and provide information and products related to beef genetics, nutrition, animal health, equipment, livestock health, marketing and more.

The conference is a joint effort of WSU Extension, Department of Animal Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine.
