April 25: Annual business plan competition kickoff

castles-80PULLMAN, Wash. – Dan Castles, chief executive officer of Telestream, will present “The Entrepreneurship Experience: Is It for You?” a free, public talk at 12:50 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the CUB auditorium at Washington State University. The lecture kicks off the 12th Annual WSU Business Plan Competition hosted by the College of Business.

Media are invited to the following: The awards gala announcing the high school winners and the college teams that will advance to the final rounds, at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the WSU Ensminger Pavilion; the awards ceremony announcing the college winners at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in Todd Hall Room 268. Note: Media may come early to set up equipment.

The April 25-26 contest, which is not open to the public, allows 24 undergraduate and four high school teams to present their entrepreneurial ideas before real investors. Winners will share more than $50,000 in prize money.

A panel of judges comprised of business community members; entrepreneurs from successfully launched businesses, venture capitalists, angel investors, Keiretsu Forum members and bankers will evaluate teams on the following criteria:

• Quality of the idea

• Quality of the written and oral communication of the idea

• Likelihood of the plan’s success

• Demonstrated knowledge of the entrepreneurial process

Preliminary international competitions were held at the College of Business’ partner institutions in Brig, Switzerland; Arusha, Tanzania; and Chengdu, China. The winning teams from each country advanced to the Pullman competition.
