EVERETT, Wash. – The Washington State University Board of Regents will hold a regularly scheduled meeting March 27 and 28 at University Center of North Puget Sound at Everett to consider a variety of action and future action items, including creation of a state-of-the-art health care system for students.
Committee meetings will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in Room 156 of Gray Wolf Hall. The board meeting will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in the same location. Agenda materials are available at http://regents.wsu.edu/meeting-dates/.
Regents will vote on proposals aimed at creating a health care system for students on the Pullman campus that reflects national trends in integrated delivery. The plan calls for remodeling the Washington Building to consolidate primary medical care and campus mental health services into a single location. Currently, Health and Wellness Services and Counseling and Testing Services are in separate buildings.
The board also will vote on extending the professional sciences master’s degree in electrical engineering to WSU’s Global Campus. Delivering the degree online will provide access to qualified, place-bound individuals statewide, nationally and internationally – including working professionals in engineering-related industries – at times convenient for them.
Regents will hear initial reports for future action regarding:
• Establishment of the WSU College of Medical Sciences, which will bring together the WWAMI medical education program and the WSU Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences with a common mission of educating clinicians and clinician scientists. The college will address the growing shortage of physicians, especially in rural communities in the state.
• Approval of the WSU Pullman Gateway Improvement Project-Phase 1, which is part of a plan to repair, upgrade and replace campus entrances and “gateway” locations. Phase 1 addresses the intersection of Stadium Way and Main Street (Highway 270) in Pullman.
• Services and activities fees for 2014-15.
