Jan. 28: WSU hosts forum about health care options

health-care-250PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University and Pullman community members are invited to learn about health insurance options 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the CUB junior ballroom.

The forum will provide information about student medical insurance and the Washington State Health Exchange, established as part of the U.S. Affordable Care Act.

“Now that health insurance is a federal requirement, we want to make sure everyone has access to the information they need to make decisions before the end of the national open enrollment period on March 31,” said Devon Eldridge, a clinical psychology graduate student and chair of the Counseling and Student Health Advisory Committee (CSHAC).

Local experts will discuss health insurance options, provide tips on how to compare plans and answer questions. A representative from the exchange will address expansions of Medicaid and new mandates.

On-site computers will be available for attendees to get first-hand experience in accessing and navigating online enrollment.

The forum is sponsored by CSHAC, the Associated Students of WSU, the Graduate and Professional Student Association and the Cougar Health Awareness Team.

Students who are unable to attend but want more information can contact Merry Lawrence in the WSU Health & Wellness Services billing office at 509-335-5293 or mklawrence@wsu.edu.

Pullman Regional Hospital’s social workers are available to help community members navigate the state Health Plan Finder system and apply for coverage. Please call 509-336-7556 to make an appointment.
