Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

For the past year and a half the Executive Budget Council (EBC) has been focused on better understanding WSU’s current budget practices and developing a proposed budget model and process to better align resource allocation with our strategic priorities. We sincerely appreciate the robust participation of the WSU community during the EBC listening and feedback sessions that were hosted in late April!

Following the listening and feedback sessions, the EBC and Huron Consulting Group updated the Budget Model Development Initiative Update PowerPoint presentation and produced a Frequently Asked Questions document. Both items can be found on the EBC website at provost.wsu.edu/ebc.

As the budget model is finalized, the EBC is also developing a governance process to support the implementation of the new model. In many ways, the budget governance is even more important than the budget model, since this is intended to be a data-informed (not data-driven) budget process. Our goal is to pilot the new budget model and continue to develop the budget governance this fiscal year (FY2023). Full implementation is expected to be complete within the next two fiscal years.

We greatly appreciate the Executive Budget Council’s steadfast commitment and investment in the budget redesign work. Their expertise and advocacy will have a lasting impact on the project’s work and the university’s new budget model. We also want to recognize and thank the Budget Office for their tireless support of this process and partnership with Huron Consulting Group.

Finally, our continued heartfelt thanks to our WSU community for your efforts and engagement!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth S. Chilton
