PULLMAN, Wash. – Evaluating the effectiveness of student success programs at Washington State University is a priority for the Office of the Provost and the Office of Assessment of Teaching and Learning.
“Over the last couple of years we have created more than 30 student success initiatives based on the experience of our staff and academic literature,” said Jerman Rose, special assistant to the Provost. “What we don’t really know is which of these are the most effective in achieving our goal of helping students graduate.
“In order for us to be more effective, we need to develop systems to evaluate those outcomes,” he said.
Assessment of student learning has been a focus at WSU, particularly since about 2009. Assessment helps WSU fulfill its strategic plan and requirements for university accreditation.
More information will be announced as WSU plans workshops and other efforts for developing systems to assess outcomes of its student success initiatives.
