Alumnus wins Fulbright to focus on global music

Scott-ShigeokaPULLMAN, Wash. – A Washington State University alumnus is one of five Fulbright-mtvU fellows selected for 2014-15 to explore the power of music as a cultural force for expression or change around the world.

Scott Shigeoka, who earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2011 from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, will work with local groups in Iceland to launch “Saga Fest,” a music festival intended to build community ties and promote environmental sustainability.

Part of the U.S. Department of State since 1946, the Fulbright Program (http://eca.state.gov/fulbright) is the government’s “flagship international educational exchange program.” The Fulbright-mtvU fellowship was established in 2007.
