April 12: Wine event expands to ‘Taste of WSU’
PULLMAN, Wash. – A Mom’s Weekend wine tasting has expanded into “Taste of WSU” with heartier food, a larger location and silent auction access to more student clubs for fundraising.
The Viticulture and Enology (V&E) Club will join the College of Agricultural, Human & Natural Resource Sciences Student Senate to host the wine tasting 1:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Ensminger Pavilion.
All ages are welcome. Tickets for non-tasters (includes non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers) cost $10; wine taster tickets cost $25 (includes wine, appetizers and wineglass).
The student senate is offering $5 off to the first five people who comment on the Facebook post on Tuesday, April 8, at http://facebook.com/cahnrs.
The tasting will feature more than 30 wines from most of Washington’s viticulture areas, as well as selections from the Idaho Wine Council. Attendees can also taste the Washington State University Pullman V&E Club’s riesling, viognier and syrah that will be released this summer.
Future bottles will be for sale, with the options to have them shipped to the buyer or picked up when ready.
“We have had a generous quantity of donations from wineries like EFESTE, Hogue, Merry Cellars, Masquerade and from WSU Blended Learning,” said Joe Sperry, president of the V&E Club.
The silent auction will include items ranging from Horticulture Club planters to Dairy Club gift baskets of WSU snacks to V&E Club bottles of Washington wines and alcohols.
The V&E Club teamed up with the student senate so all CAHNRS clubs could participate in and benefit from the auction.
Proceeds from the event help the V&E Club assist students with international internships, offer travel opportunities to wineries around Washington and participate in a winemaking project at Merry Cellars in Pullman.
