Nutrition students to stage heart-healthy juried cook off
SPOKANE, Wash. – Heart-healthy and nutritionally balanced dishes with an international flair will be prepared by students and then judged at a free, public event Feb. 20 at Washington State University in Spokane. Food samples and recipes will be made available to those who attend.

Students in the nutrition and exercise physiology (NEP) program will host the International Cook Off and Heart Health Screening to call attention to the free and low-fee diet and exercise counseling the students offer to the community. NEP students and those in the doctor of pharmacy program also will conduct free health screenings at the event.
The event will be 4:30-6 p.m. in the Phase I Classroom Building, 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd., Spokane. Children accompanied by adults are welcome.

A panel of six will judge the food prepared by students. Judges are: Lisa Brown, chancellor of WSU Spokane; Martine Duchatelet, dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at Eastern Washington University; Patsy Gayda, vice president at Spokane Teachers Credit Union; Monica Hampton, store manager at Huckleberry’s Natural Market; Joel McCullough, medical director of Spokane Regional Health District; and Doug Wordell, nutrition director at Spokane Public Schools.
