Email mailbox migration, upgrade under way

PULLMAN, Wash. – Information Technology Systems is upgrading the WSU email Connect! system from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  The upgrade is for customers using the central ITS Exchange service (connect.wsu.edu) with email addresses that are in the NID@wsu.edu domain.

On Monday, June 27, ITS will start migrating existing customer mailboxes to the new email system.  This phase of the mailbox migration is expected to be completed by July 29.

Increased storage capacity
When complete, the upgrade will provide all central ITS Exchange service customers with a 5-gigabyte mailbox and an enhanced Web-based email interface known as Outlook Web App.

Entourage users, departmental mailboxes and other resources will be migrated at a later date.  Blackberry customers who utilize the ITS Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) will also be migrated at a later date.

No impact, but restart
This change should not impact most people, although some may be prompted to restart their email client when the mailbox has finished moving.

Customers using Outlook Web App (OWA), ActiveSync, IMAP and Outlook can continue to access their mailbox as they normally would. Customers who use OWA (http://connect.wsu.edu) will notice improved Web access functionality.

This multiphased project started in May, and all central ITS Exchange users are scheduled to be migrated to the new Exchange version by September.
