Mariners game to benefit WSU teaching scholarships

SEATTLE – On April 10, Seattle Mariners fans can enjoy both discounted ticket prices at Safeco Field and a chance to support students in Washington State University’s Masters in Teaching program.

That Sunday, when the Mariners play the Cleveland Indians, a portion of game proceeds will benefit The Martinez Foundation. The charity provides scholarships to future teachers of color. Discounted seating can be purchased online at http://Mariners.com/Martinez.

Game time is 1:10 p.m. Because it will also be Salute to Kids Day, fans 14 and younger will receive an Ichiro T-shirt.

Ticket prices are $16 for view reserved seating (normally $20), of which $8 will benefit the foundation; and $35 for field level seating (normally $40), of which $10 will benefit the foundation. Groups of 25 or more will have their name on the scoreboard and groups of 40 or more will receive two free tickets.

The Martinez Foundation was created in 2008 by former Mariner’s all-star Edgar Martinez and his wife, Holli Martinez, to strengthen communities by providing underserved populations with educational opportunities. They teamed up with WSU, the University of Washington and Seattle University to put more teachers of color into the nation’s classrooms.
