Football academics rise sharply under Coach Paul Wulff

PULLMAN – WSU led all Pacific-10 Conference schools with seven student-athletes on the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team, the conference announced this week. Additionally, WSU had one second-team selection and four student-athletes named honorable mention.
Leading the way for WSU were seniors Micah Hannam and Chima Nwachukwu as each was named to the first team for the third consecutive season. Hannam, an offensive tackle, is a civil engineering major who carries a 3.58 grade point average.
Nwachukwu, a safety from Allen, Texas, boasts a 3.85 GPA as a political science major and has earned a 4.0 GPA each of his last four semesters.
Also earning first-team honors were:
- senior center Chris Prummer, a zoology major from Renton, Wash., with a 3.90 GPA
- senior defensive end Casey Hamlett, a management and operations major from Edmonds, Wash., with a 3.77 GPA
- senior defensive end Kevin Kooyman, a management and operations major from Maple Valley, Wash. who carries a 3.18 GPA
- junior wide receiver Jared Karstetter from Spokane, Wash., who has a 3.55 GPA in zoology
- sophomore safety Kyle McCartney, from Edmonds, Wash., who maintains a 3.87 GPA in entrepreneurship
Prummer and Kooyman were each named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team for the second consecutive year.
Sophomore Andrei Lintz, a tight end from Meridian, Wash., was named to the second team, with a 3.70 GPA in sport management.
Honorable mentions included:
- wide receiver Daniel Blackledge, a senior communication major (3.01 GPA) from Colorado Springs, Colo.
- sophomore tight end Skylar Stormo, a finance major (3.09) from Everett, Wash.
- redshirt freshman defensive tackle Justin Clayton from Napa, Calif.
- redshirt freshman linebacker Darren Markle from Meridian, Idaho
Clayton and Markle have yet to declare majors and carry a 3.01 and 3.11 GPA, respectively.
