PULLMAN – WSU communicators have earned a school-record three awards in the 2010 Circle of Excellence communications competition sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The awards signify WSU’s entries as among the top communications work produced by colleges, universities and independent schools. Out of 2,700 entries worldwide, CASE honored 300 projects.

WSU’s three awards placed the university third (tied with the University of Washington) for most honors among Pac-10 universities in the 2010 competition, trailing only Stanford and the University of California Berkeley.

The winning entries include:

  • Silver Award for excellence in editorial design, Washington State Magazine (Spring 2009), “You Must Remember This,” John Paxson, graphic designer

  • Bronze Award for video public service announcements and commercial spots, “Go Cougs,” creative team: Tim Pavish, Copacino+Fujikado

  • Bronze Award for individual institutional relations publications, research publications, “Clean Technologies” direct-mail brochure, creative team: Anna Sherwood, Eric Limburg, Sharon White, John Sutherland

”I’m delighted with the achievements and the recognition earned by our communications professionals,” said John Gardner, vice president for University Advancement and External Affairs. ”These honors are richly deserved and serve as another indication of the quality efforts staff are investing in advancing WSU’s strategic priorities.”

The video public service announcements also received a Grand Gold Award—recognizing them as the top entry in their category at the 2010 communications competition sponsored by the District VIII CASE organization, which is comprised of 46 higher education institutions in the western U.S. and Canada. The clean technologies brochure received a Gold Award in the same competition.

CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and allied areas. The organization includes nearly 3,400 colleges and universities, primary and secondary independent and international schools, and nonprofit organizations in 59 countries.
