PULLMAN – WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine has reintroduced ophthalmological services at its Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Pullman.
Dr. Terri Schneider, former head of the hospital’s community practice service, has completed a three-year residency with Dr. Bill Yakely of the Animal Eye Clinic of Spokane. She is now in the process of completing board certification with the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
The service is open to the public without referral during regular business hours Thursdays and Fridays each week. Schneider is available for consultation for afterhours ocular emergencies that are seen by resident staff veterinarians.
“We can do most surgical procedures in Pullman; however cataract surgery is still done at the satellite clinic in Spokane,” Schneider said. “The presurgical and post-op aftercare can be done at WSU.”
“Adding animal eye care and surgical services provides a valuable service for the public and enhances the educational opportunities for our students,” said Bryan Slinker, dean of the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine. “On behalf of the college, I want to extend our thanks to Dr. Yakely, a 1969 WSU alumnus, for his many years of teaching and service he provided to his alma mater, not the least of which was training Dr. Schneider.”
