TIAA-CREF, HRS offer financial education seminars

 
 
PULLMAN – WSU and TIAA-CREF will be conducting financial education seminars on Aug. 18-19 at the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) room 219.
 
Each seminar will begin with a “benefits discussion” presented by the benefits staff from WSU Human Resource Services. That session will address:
  • Life changing events
  • Life insurance
  • Long-term disability
  • Retirement income
  • ASI Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Web PBS
  • Retirement Supplementation
The financial education portion of the seminar will be presented by representatives from TIAA-CREF and is divided into two groups: new hires/mid-career and pre-retirement.
 
 
New hires/mid-career
These sessions are designed for employees just starting out in their job to those in mid-career. The sessions will include topics such as setting financial goals, realizing tax advantages, potentially reducing risk with diversification, recognizing the pitfalls of market timing, and understanding the impact of expenses.  Session times are:
  • Wednesday, August 18: 12:00-2:00 PM
  • Thursday, August 19: 8:30-10:30 AM
  • Thursday, August 19: 3:00-5:00 PM

Pre-Retirement
This session is designed for employees looking to retire in 5-10 years. Topics will focus on how to simplify steps to retirement, such as: obtaining objective advice and asset allocation based on your individual needs; creating a personalized action plan; reviewing your retirement income options; funding a financial strategy that fits your personal needs; and keeping your retirement investing on track.
 
Session times include:
  • Wednesday, August 18: 8:30-10:30 AM
  • Wednesday, August 18: 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Thursday, August 19: 12:00-2:00 PM
