‘Power of One’ leadership conference returns to the Palouse

PULLMAN – “The Power of One,” the Northwest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) student leadership conference that began on the WSU campus in 2004, is returning April 2-4 to WSU and the University of Idaho.

Every year universities from around the Northwest bid to host the conference. WSU and the University of Idaho partnered on their successful bid to host the three-day event centered on the theme, “Honoring Our Roots & Sustaining Our Legacy.”
Sessions will address a variety of topics including ally development, social justice leadership, gender, health and wellness, and the creative arts. Also included will be an advising and administrative track for educational professionals and community service providers who work with LGBT youth and college students.

The keynote speaker is Sue Rankin, a professor at Penn State University and nationally recognized consultant on LGBT campus climate assessment. Rankin’s areas of research include strategic planning for equity and community as well as issues dealing with power/privilege and intersecting identities on college campuses.

Registration and vendor information can be found on the conference website at www.nwlgbtleadership.wsu.edu. Participants are encouraged to register early for reduced individual and group rates.
