Business graduates at Washington State University now have another valuable resource to help them land quality, high-paying jobs: a new director of placement and recruiting position in the College of Business and Economics.
Janel Lang, the college’s former recruitment and retention director, was named to the new office, effective at the start of fall semester.
“We want to do more to place our graduates in good, high-paying jobs,” said CBE Dean Len Jessup. “It is important to our students, it is important to the companies who partner with us, and it is essential if we are to provide the ‘best undergraduate experience in a research university’ as stated in WSU’s new strategic plan.
“Janel has been very effective in attracting high-quality students during her first four years with the college, and I feel she is the best person for this new job. Students tell us they would like help in getting the right internship and the best job, and the new position will help fill that request.
“Janel will focus on interacting with students who are trying to secure internships, career placements, and study abroad opportunities, as well as building relationships with the people and companies who recruit our students. She will coordinate her efforts with the college’s department and program leaders, and with WSU Career Services. She will also still do some recruiting of high-quality students from diverse backgrounds,” the dean said.
“I am so excited to work with our students to help them identify and secure good internships and job opportunities,” said Lang. “We want to make sure business graduates are prepared and competitive in today’s job market.”
Lang has worked in many capacities with WSU students since 1996. She has master’s degree in social science/career and life planning from California State University-Chico, and a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from Eastern Washington University. A Pullman native, she is the daughter of Jim Stemmene and Virginia Cardon of Pullman. She and her husband, Milton, have two daughters: Maliza and Zayna.
