Team up, step out against heart disease April 19

Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death (more women than men), and stroke is number 3. The WSU community has a chance to take a step against them — several “steps,” in fact. The Spokane American Heart Walk takes place April 19 at Riverfront Park, with a 1-mile or 3-mile course.

WSU Spokane is looking for a strong presence in this event and for team leaders. These leaders recruit teams of walkers to raise the donations for the event. Fund-raising can be done online or through collection envelopes. This website allows participants to create their own page, which they can then e-mail to others: www.heartwalk.kintera.org/spokanewa. Click on “Register,” then “New Team,” then “New Team under Company.” Select WSU Spokane, fill in a few blanks and the system will create your web page, which you can then personalize.

Jason Miller from AHA has agreed to meet individually with team leaders to get them set up and comfortable with the system.
