After 44 years in the same location, the WSU Museum of Art will close its doors Friday, Nov. 17, in preparation for the move to its new, glass-encased crimson facility next door and is hosting a community reception featuring a special lecture by renowned multimedia artist Wendy Red Star and her 10-year-old daughter, Beatrice Red Star Fletcher.
The gathering is set for 5-7 p.m. in the current gallery space, located in the Fine Arts Center on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium on the Pullman campus. The joint lecture will serve as the event kickoff from 5-6 p.m.
Red Star is known for taking a humorous approach to working across disciplines to explore the intersections of Native American ideologies and colonialist structures, both historically and in contemporary society.
The museum will reopen in the newly completed facility and with a new name, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art/WSU, on Mom’s Weekend 2018.
