A group of researchers led by Simon Licen at WSU invites you to take part in a focus group (small discussion group) about national identity, media, and sport on Thursday, November 9 (for U.S. nationals), and Monday, November 13 (for non-U.S. nationals), both days at 4:30-6:00 p.m. in Pullman. The focus group should last no longer than one and a half hours.
The focus group will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your understanding of national identity and concepts such as patriotism and nationalism, especially in relation to sport and mass media. Your views will be used to help us understand how sport, especially in mass media, influence national identification in different counties. Also, we are interested whether migrations influence your thoughts on the topic. Findings will inform the development of a new questionnaire and will be presented at conferences and in publications aimed at academic and professional audiences.
If you would like to take part in the focus groups on Thursday, November 9 (for U.S. nationals), and Monday, November 13 (for non-U.S. nationals), please respond to a short questionnaire located at https://www.1ka.si/a/141902. The questionnaire will be open until Sunday, November 5, after which we will select the participants. Participants will be selected in such a way as to assure a broad range of views on the topic. All respondents to the questionnaire will be notified whether they are invited to take part in the focus group.
Participation in the study is voluntary. If you choose to participate, you may withdraw at any time without consequences. Participants will not receive any compensation. All information gathered in this study will be kept confidential and your identity will be protected: any comments you make will not be attributed to you directly.
