WSU Tri-Cities and Columbia Basin College are hosting a series of free events surrounding civil rights and civic engagement the week of Jan. 20.

A full slate of events is scheduled beginning on Thursday, Jan. 16 with a film and culminating with a keynote address by W. Kamau Bell on Jan. 23.

An international leader in industrial crystal development, the Regents Professor and Eminent Faculty member died unexpectedly Jan. 2 while skiing in Utah. A memorial is set for Jan. 17 on the Pullman campus.

With significant snowfall predicted for much of the state in coming days, this would be a good time to review WSU policies and keep an eye on the emergency alert system for your campus.

The number of WSU faculty‑led study abroad programs is also on the rise, drawing nearly 300 students each semester.

Each applicant must submit an abstract of 250 words or less about their research or creative activity. Topics presented at last year’s event ranged from genetics and medical sciences to agricultural practices and literature.

Registration is open for the annual Country Living Expo and Cattlemen’s Winterschool on Jan. 25 at Stanwood High School.

A WSU Tri‑Cities program is helping paraeducators, those who provide instructional support in schools, earn education degrees and begin careers as full‑time certified teachers.

No one knows yet what this winter will bring but more than two dozen full-time and seasonal employees are ready to do their best to keep the Pullman campus as accessible as possible in the face of severe weather.

Experts from Washington and Oregon will talk on an array of topics relevant to private forest owners at the WSU-Vancouver Library on Feb. 8.
