Volunteer judges needed for WSU student research event March 27

Volunteer judges are sought for the sixth annual WSU Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (SURCA), slated for Monday, March 27, in the CUB Senior Ballroom.

The event will include works by approximately 250 students from all majors, grades and campuses, said Shelley Pressley, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and SURCA coordinator. An equal number of volunteer judges are needed.

WSU faculty, post-docs and staff, are invited to sign-up for judging at https://SURCA.wsu.edu/judges. The deadline for registration is March 1.

SURCA is the only WSU venue for all undergraduates to showcase their research, scholarship and creative activities, and be eligible for awards. Topics depicted on students’ posters will span eight categories.

Judges will receive in advance the titles of the two to four posters assigned to them, and have online access to those students’ research abstracts.

On the day of SURCA, the general schedule is as follows:

* 2-2:45 p.m. – Judges examine posters without students present.

* 2:45-3:45 p.m. – Students discuss their work with judges.

* 3:45 p.m. – Judges’ evaluations (with pre-set guidelines) are due.

* 4:45-5:30 p.m. – Everyone is invited to the awards ceremony.

The schedule is subject to change.

SURCA is hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, part of WSU Undergraduate Education. SURCA is the kickoff event for this year’s WSU Showcase Week, a university tradition celebrating the excellence of faculty, staff, and students.
