Single Cell RNA Sequencing Analysis Comes to WSU

Single cell RNA sequencing is a cutting edge technology that allows for in-depth examination of the transcriptome in individual cell subsets of seemingly homogenous populations. Outcomes can reveal heterogeneity of the cell populations in regards to gene expression profiles, thus allowing for clustering and further exploration of precise subsets that makeup specific cell lineages and ultimately lead to sustaining life processes. The Center for Reproductive Biology (CRB, http://crb.wsu.edu/), in conjunction with the Functional Genomics Initiative (FGI), has recently acquired single cell RNA sequencing technology from 10X Genomics Inc. The Chromium Single Cell 3’ Solution is a microfluidics platform designed for efficient and rapid generation of single cell RNA libraries from thousands of individual cells at one time. In conjunction with Illumina based next generation sequencing, the RNA libraries can be quantified to compare the gene expression profiles of thousands of cells from diverse organisms and all tissue types. For more information about the technology, please visit: https://www.10xgenomics.com/single-cell/.

The CRB is in the process of developing a service for life sciences investigators that would like to implement single cell RNA sequencing in their research programs. In doing so, we are hoping to gain an understanding of the user base in order to assess technical staffing and reagent needs, as well as for developing a cost structure for the service. To this end, we ask that all research labs at WSU with potential interest in utilizing the technology, please send the following information to the CRB Coordinator at emersonc@vetmed.wsu.edu.

  1. Principal Investigator Name:
  2. Organism/source of cells of interest:
  3. Timeframe for interest in utilizing the technology (e.g. immediate, 6 months, 12 months, etc.):
  4. Frequency of possible use (e.g. each month, once per year, etc.):
  5. Volume of possible use (e.g. two samples per experiment, six samples per experiment, etc.):
