Seminar: “Role of seams in modifying direction of baseball pitches”

Please join us on Thursday, October 18, 11 a.m. to Noon in ETRL room 101 (Tri-Cities in Floyd room 224) for a presentation by Professor Barton Smith, Utah State University.

His presentation will be on the role of seams in modifying the direction of baseball pitches. Baseballs rotate when thrown and therefore are subject to the Magnus effect, like other sports balls. Baseball pitchers modify the trajectory of their pitches by changing the axis of rotation of the ball. However, different factors result in different trajectories.

Meet the speaker before the seminar in ETRL room 119 from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. We look forward to having you join us!
