In an effort to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff who are first in their family to earn a college degree, we are compiling a directory of WSU colleagues who identify as “First-Generation.” Individuals are considered first-generation if their parents or legal guardians have not completed a four-year college degree.
The goal of compiling a directory of first-generation faculty and staff is to illustrate the prevalence of first-generation individuals at Washington State University. This directory will demonstrate to our growing population of first-generation WSU students that they are not alone in being the first in the family to navigate a university system, and that success (and graduation!) is possible. Faculty and staff who agree to be listed in the directory will be highlighted as role models on campus who can relate to the experiences of being “first.”
To add your name to the directory, visit http://www.firstscholars.wsu.edu/wsu-firsts/. The directory is being compiled by the First Scholars Program at Washington State University. The First Scholars Program supports first-generation college students and assists them in completing their college degrees.
