Register for Foster Care System & Higher Education webinar

April 19, 2017 at 2:30pm

While there are over 425,000 youths in foster care, only 2-9 percent eventually earn a bachelor’s degree.  WSU Human Development professor, Dr. Amy Salazar, will provide an overview of youth aging out of foster care and the challenges they face when accessing higher education. Discussion of federal legislation affecting education for foster care youth and Dr. Salazar’s own experience testifying before Congress will be included in this interactive webinar. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the foster care youth experience, possible interventions to help these youth succeed in higher education and ways individuals can make a positive impact.
