Do you know an outstanding student, student group, faculty member, staff member, or community organization? You are invited to honor their leadership by nominating them today for the 2017 WSU President’s Award for Leadership. Student recipients are eligible to apply for the $1,000 Virginia E. Thomas scholarship, and all award recipients are honored at the annual Leadership and Engagement Awards of Distinction (LEAD) ceremony on April 18, at 5 p.m.
Since 1996, the President’s Award has been an honor bestowed annually to students and others who advance leadership and engagement at WSU and beyond. Recipients of this prestigious award demonstrate exceptional leadership and service to the university and the community or support leadership development and engagement of WSU students. The 2017 award categories are student, student group, faculty or staff, and community organization.
To select the awardees, a committee of faculty, staff and students will review applicants by considering each within the framework of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, specifically with respect to these qualities: consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, collaboration, common purpose, controversy with civility, citizenship, and change. Students must complete an application and submit two letters of recommendation for consideration. Individuals nominating students have the option of attaching a letter of recommendation when submitting their nomination.
Student nominations were due February 20, 2017. Student applications and nominations for student groups, community organizations, and faculty or staff are due March 10, 2017. The LEAD event and President’s Award are presented in partnership by Student Involvement, the Center for Civic Engagement, GPSA, and ASWSU.
